Η ορθολογική ανάλυση του θέματος της ΑΟΖ αναδεικνύει αντικειμενικά ότι αποτελεί ένα στρατηγικό πλεονέκτημα. Θέλουμε δεν θέλουμε, αυτό είναι πλέον γεγονός. Μπορούμε βέβαια να το κρύψουμε από τον εαυτό μας, αλλά αυτό δεν σημαίνει ότι δεν υπάρχει. Μπορούμε βέβαια να μην του δώσουμε την επαρκή σημασία, αλλά αυτό δεν θα ισχύει για τους αντιπάλους μας. Κατά κάποιο τρόπο πρέπει ν' αποδειχθούμε ότι η έννοια της ΑΟΖ έχει σημασία, ανεξάρτητα από το πολιτικό πλαίσιο, διότι δεν είμαστε ο μοναδικός παίκτης, κατά συνέπεια αυτή η ανεξαρτησία, αν δεν ενταχθεί σ' ένα συμμαχικό πεδίο δράσης, θα παραμείνει ένα πλαίσιο όπου θα παίξουν εις βάρος μας οι άλλοι παίκτες. Και ο λόγος είναι απλός: γεωστρατηγικά και τοποστρατηγικά, η ελληνική ΑΟΖ έχει τεράστια σημασία, όχι μόνο για μας, και κατ' επέκταση για όλη την Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση, αλλά και για τους αντιπάλους μας που προτιμούν να μην τη θεσπίσουμε καν και να μην συμπράξουμε διακρατικές συμφωνίες, διότι αυτή η αδράνεια θα τους προσφέρει μεγάλες δυνατότητες κινήσεων σ' ένα πλαίσιο, το οποίο θα είναι ελεύθερο. Η μη συνειδητοποίηση αυτού του νοητικού σχήματος θα προκαλέσει εις βάρος μας μεγάλα προβλήματα με επιπτώσεις για το μέλλον που δύσκολα μπορούμε να προβλέψουμε με τα τωρινά δεδομένα, τόσο μεγάλη θα είναι η αλλαγή φάσης. Αν επιμείνουμε λοιπόν σε αυτήν την αδράνεια σκέψης και κατάλληλων αποφάσεων, θα έρθουν απλά να μας το υπενθυμίσουν οι αντίπαλοί μας δίχως κανένα δισταγμό, διότι γνωρίζουν πολύ καλά τα πλεονεκτήματα και τις δυνατότητες που προσφέρει η ελληνική ΑΟΖ. Η ιδιότητα της ΑΟΖ με τα 200 ΝΜ της, να προσφέρει τη δυνατότητα μετασχηματισμού ακριτικών νησιών σε ελκυστές με μεγάλη δεξαμενή έλξης, δεν είναι βέβαια άσχετη με το θέμα. Διότι αυτό που θεωρούμε συνήθως ως ένα αδύναμο στοιχείο, μετατρέπεται με αυτόν τον τρόπο σε μία σημαντική βάση ελέγχου μίας μεγάλης περιοχής, η οποία έχει την ικανότητα να επεκτείνει το χώρο δράσης μας, δίχως να έχει τα προβλήματα που αντιμετωπίζει η έννοια των 12 ΝΜ. Αυτή η μεγάλη αλλαγή φάσης της θεώρησης των δεδομένων του Αιγαίου συμπεριλαμβάνοντας το Καστελλόριζο και τη Γαύδο, είναι σημαντικότατη. Το θέμα δεν είναι να εκμεταλλευτούμε απλώς μία ευκαιρία, όπως πιστεύουν οι περισσότεροι, αλλά πραγματικά να εδραιώσουμε τη θέση μας σε μία ανθεκτική βάση. Έτσι, το να δεχτούμε πιέσεις για αυτό το θέμα δεν είναι μόνο αναμενόμενο, αλλά απαραίτητο, διότι μόνο η έννοια της επικάλυψης οδηγεί στις διακρατικές συμφωνίες, οι οποίες αναδεικνύουν σταθερά σημεία, τα οποία βρίσκονται σε μεγάλη απόσταση από τα σύνορα με τη συμβατική τους έννοια. Όλα αυτά δεν είναι μία ουτοπία, διότι η Κύπρος με το παράδειγμά της έχει αποδείξει ότι ευσταθούν κι είναι ορθολογικά, ακόμα και σε μία κατάσταση κρίσης. Ο πραγματικός μας εχθρός δεν είναι παρά μόνο μία μορφή ηττοπάθειας, η οποία μας οδηγεί να μην πιστεύουμε στις ικανότητες και δυνατότητές μας. Όλα τα άλλα είναι λεπτομέρειες. Είναι λοιπόν σημαντικό να απελευθερωθούμε από τις φοβίες μας που μας παραλύουν τη σκέψη και δεν επιτρέπουν τη στρατηγική μας δράση...
